Bird watching is a great hobby to start, especially for children who are very interested in animals. You don’t need to be an expert at all as you will learn the ropes eventually as you go along the way.
Start with bird listening. Close your eyes and listen attentively to the sounds around you. If you hear a bird, slowly move closer towards the bird and see how close you can get without it fleeing away.
Once you’ve mastered listening and earning the trust of birds, you can start purchasing bird equipment. This is going to be a lot more fun if you have a wide garden or backyard where birds can hang out. Put up birdhouses, bird baths or feeders to attract birds who want to rest, eat or drink.
Make it a habit to watch birds at feeding time – observe the bulk of birds that visit you, their colour, sizes and the like so you are familiar with the bird species in your locality. This is also so you know if you’ve seen something rare.
